Boosting Income Generating Activities (IGAs) for Formerly Incarcerated Women

Rose (not real name) at her charcoal stall

When Rose (not real name) was released from prison a year ago, she embarked on seeking for ways to sustain herself while in the community. She joined the Formerly Incarcerated Women’s Association which encouraged her to start up a business. Through friends of Women safe home, money was raised and Rose was facilitated to start up an income generating project. Right now she is the lead distributor of charcoal in her area and in the year she has made enough profits to rent herself a decent place to stay, has obtained a national Id and also opened up a savings account where she makes daily deposits. She is grateful to Wells of Hope Ministries and hopes that one day she will also be able to help a woman to successfully resettle back in the community after release.
