In –Prison Re-entry Sensitisation.

At Wells of Hope Women Safe Home, we believe that re-entry starts that very day one is imprisoned. The day a person is sent to prison they start to plan for the release day. We have therefore always ensured that we engage the inmates to prepare them for that day. To be able to achieve this despite the entry restrictions into prisons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been able to empower the welfare officers at Luzira and Nakasongola prisons to conduct sensitisation on our behalf. This would also act as a platform to introduce the Safe Home to the women such that those that have challenges going back to their communities upon release can start to prepare to be received at the home.

Yesterday, all the women in Luzira women prison had a session about re-entry. A total of 68 women attended the session and of those, 6 women have applied to come to the safe home before the year ends. We plan to start orientation for their possible admission to the home.
